Dr. Joseph James, DO

Anesthesiology & Pain Management

Dr. Joseph James, DO is a board-certified Anesthesiologist and fellowship-trained Pain Management specialist. He founded The Family Pain & Wellness with a mission to deliver holistic, compassionate care to individuals living with chronic pain, and to create a welcoming, family-like environment for his patients.

With advanced training in both anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine, Dr. James brings a wealth of expertise to the treatment of spine, joint, and nerve pain. He is highly skilled in a broad range of minimally invasive procedures and innovative IV infusion therapies designed to provide effective, long-term pain relief. Known for his patient-centered approach, Dr. James takes the time to understand each individual’s unique circumstances and works collaboratively to develop personalized treatment plans focused on restoring function, independence, and quality of life.

Dr. James earned his medical degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Albany Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in Interventional Pain Management at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a major Tufts University teaching hospital in Boston. He is also a published author of a chapter on pain control in the book Problem Based Learning in Anesthesia, contributing to the advancement of pain medicine through research and scholarship.

In addition to his work in pain management, Dr. James continues to practice as an anesthesiologist at hospitals and surgery centers, where he manages pain across the perioperative spectrum—including pre-operative assessment, intraoperative anesthesia care, post-operative recovery, and non-operative pain management.

Outside of medicine, Dr. James enjoys playing golf, basketball, building Legos, and spending quality time with his nieces and nephews. A deeply family-oriented individual, Dr. James is committed to building meaningful relationships with his patients.

Dr. Annette Lukose, MD

Dr. Annette Lukose, MD

Interventional Pain Management

Dr. Annette Lukose, MD is a double board-certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Interventional Pain Management. She is dedicated to providing personalized, evidence-based care in a trusting environment, helping patients regain function, confidence, and quality of life.

She specializes in diagnosing and treating spine, joint, muscle, and nerve conditions using a wide range of minimally invasive procedures. Her expertise includes epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, trigger point injections, regenerative therapies, and EMG testing. Dr. Lukose takes a comprehensive approach to pain management, emphasizing functional restoration and long-term relief. Each treatment plan is tailored to the individual needs and goals of her patients.

Dr. Lukose earned her medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine after graduating summa cum laude from the prestigious BS/MD program at Sophie Davis Biomedical Education. She completed her Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She then completed her Interventional Pain Management fellowship at George Washington University Hospital.

She has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2024 and scored in the top 25th percentile on her Pain Medicine Board Exam. Dr. Lukose has several years of experience practicing pain management at orthopedic practices in Huntington and Great Neck, Long Island. She also rounds as a freelance inpatient physiatrist, providing comprehensive rehabilitation care and pain management for hospitalized patients.

Known for her approachable demeanor and dedication to excellence, Dr. Lukose joined The Family Pain and Wellness to deliver the highest standard of compassionate, patient-centered pain care. Outside of medicine, she enjoys dance, fashion, fitness, and traveling.
