Common Conditions We Treat for Shoulder and Arm Pain Relief

We treat a range of shoulder, elbow, and wrist conditions caused by injury, overuse, or joint issues. Our goal is to identify the source of your pain and create a treatment plan that helps you recover and regain function.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is a frequent complaint, and its causes can vary widely. The shoulder has a complex structure of bones, muscles, and tendons, making it both incredibly mobile and susceptible to injury.
You may experience a dull ache or sharp pain deep within the joint. Common issues include:

  1. Rotator Cuff Tears
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize your shoulder. Tears can happen from a sudden injury or develop slowly over time with wear and tear, causing pain and weakness, especially when lifting your arm.
  2. Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
This condition causes stiffness, tightness, and pain in the shoulder joint. The connective tissue around the joint thickens, significantly limiting your range of motion. It often develops after a period of immobilization.
  3. Arthritis
Osteoarthritis, the “wear-and-tear” type of arthritis, can break down the cartilage in the shoulder joint, leading to pain, swelling, and stiffness.

    Tennis Elbow

Despite its name, you don’t need to play tennis to get tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). This condition causes pain on the outside of the elbow where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to the bone.

The pain comes from overuse—repetitive motions of the wrist and arm can strain these tendons. You might feel a burning sensation or pain that travels from the outside of your elbow into your forearm and wrist. Activities like typing, painting, or even using tools can contribute to this condition.

Any Questions About Shoulder and Arm Pain Relief?

    Wrist Pain

Your wrist is a complex joint that bears a lot of force. Pain here can stem from many sources, from sudden impacts to chronic, repetitive stress.

    1. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
This is a well-known cause of wrist and hand pain. It happens when the median nerve, which runs from your forearm into your palm, gets squeezed at the wrist. Symptoms often include tingling, numbness, and weakness in your thumb and fingers, sometimes making you feel clumsy.
    2. Sprains and Strains
A sudden fall or twist can overstretch or tear the ligaments (sprain) or muscles and tendons (strain) in the wrist, resulting in pain, swelling, and limited movement.

    Trigger Finger

Trigger finger (stenosing tenosynovitis) is a condition that affects the tendons in your fingers or thumb. A healthy tendon glides smoothly through a protective sheath. If the tendon becomes irritated and inflamed, it can develop a small nodule that gets stuck when you try to straighten your finger.

This can cause the finger to catch or lock in a bent position, then suddenly pop straight, similar to pulling a trigger. You might also feel a popping sensation or tenderness at the base of the affected finger.

    Frequently Asked Questions

When Should I See a Doctor for Arm Pain?

If your pain is severe, follows an injury like a fall, or doesn’t get better with a few days of rest, it’s a good idea to get it checked out. Persistent numbness, weakness, or an inability to use the joint are also signs you should schedule an appointment.

How Do You Diagnose the Cause of My Pain?

We start with a thorough discussion of your symptoms and a physical exam. Our pain management doctors may also use diagnostic tools like an ultrasound or an X-ray to get a clear picture of what is happening inside your joint or soft tissues.

    What Are My Treatment Options?

Treatment always starts with the most conservative approaches first. This can include rest, activity modification, physical therapy, bracing, or targeted injections to reduce inflammation and promote healing. Our goal is to help you return to your daily activities without pain.
