Board-Certified Anesthesiologist Supervision

Many ketamine clinics operate under nurse-led or technician-administered models. At The Family Pain & Wellness, every infusion is supervised by Board-Certified Anesthesiologist from start to finish — candidacy assessment, protocol selection, dosing, and monitoring.

Pain and Mental Health

Ketamine is one molecule with two therapeutic arenas: chronic neuropathic pain and treatment-resistant mood disorders. Most NYC clinics treat one. We treat both — and the dual fluency matters when symptoms overlap.

An Adjunct, Not a Replacement

We do not replace your psychiatrist, therapist, or pain specialist. We work alongside them. Ketamine infusion therapy is most effective when integrated with the rest of your care — and we structure our practice around that principle.

    The Clinical Case

Delivered by a Pain Management Practice, Not a Standalone Clinic

Most ketamine clinics in Manhattan are standalone operations — built around the molecule rather than the patient. They administer infusions and little else. At The Family Pain & Wellness, ketamine infusion therapy is one tool within a full interventional pain management practice that already treats the conditions ketamine is most indicated for.

For chronic pain patients, ketamine infusion therapy may offer relief where nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, epidurals, and oral medications have plateaued. Dr. James evaluates candidacy in the full clinical context of your pain history — not in isolation, and not as a first-line offering.

For mental health patients, ketamine offers a different neurological pathway for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, and severe anxiety — delivered in a medical setting, supervised by board-certified anesthesiologist, with clinical precision.

For every patient, the infusion is one part of an integrated plan. We coordinate directly with your psychiatrist, therapist, or referring pain specialist. We do not replace your care team. We add to it.

    Conditions We Treat

Where Ketamine Has the Strongest Evidence

Not every condition responds to ketamine, and not every patient is a candidate. Dr. James evaluates each case individually and will recommend treatment only when the clinical evidence supports it.

Any Questions About Ketamine Infusion Therapy?

    The Treatment Experience

What to Expect, From First Call to Final Infusion

    • Consultation: A complimentary 15-minute physician-led conversation. We review your history, screen for candidacy, and give you an honest answer about whether ketamine is the right next step.
    • Medical Intake: For candidates moving forward, a comprehensive intake covering cardiac, hepatic, and psychiatric screening. We coordinate with your referring physician and confirm protocol selection.
    • The Infusions: Each session is delivered in a private suite at 67 Park Avenue under board-certified anesthesiologist. Continuous monitoring throughout. Dosing is protocol-specific — pain doses run higher and longer than mental health doses.
    • Integration & Follow-Up : Post-protocol physician assessment. We share clinical notes with your psychiatrist or pain specialist and structure maintenance boosters only when clinically indicated.
    Transparent Pricing

What Treatment Costs at 67 Park Avenue, New York

We publish our rates because pricing in this category should not be a phone call. Our pricing sits at a measured premium to the NYC ketamine clinic market — and we are direct about why: every infusion is supervised by board-certified anesthesiologist within an established interventional pain management practice. That is not the model at most NYC clinics, and the cost reflects it.

The consultation is complimentary. If we do not believe ketamine is the right next step for you, we will tell you — and refer you to whatever is.

NYC Market Comparison · 6-Session Core Mental Health Protocol

    NY Ketamine Infusions $3,150
    Ketamine Wellness NY $3,600–$4,200
    Nushama $4,800
    Fountain (wellness-branded) $4,800–$5,400
The Family Pain & Wellness $5,800

Premium positioning reflects a board-certified anesthesiologist supervision model within an interventional pain practice — a delivery standard most Manhattan ketamine competitors do not match.

We Are the Infusionist. You Remain the Quarterback

Psychiatrists in Manhattan have a legitimate concern about ketamine clinics: many of them are designed to capture the patient’s full mental health relationship — medication management, therapy referrals, ongoing care — once the infusion course begins.

That is not our model. We do one thing, and we do it under your direction.

“Ketamine works best as an adjunct to ongoing psychiatric care — not a substitute for it. Our job is to deliver the infusion safely and report back to the patient’s primary mental health team. The relationship belongs to you.”

    - Dr. Joseph James, DO

    Our Commitments to Your Practice

    • We do not provide ongoing psychiatric medication management.
Your patient returns to you for SSRIs, mood stabilizers, and ongoing pharmacotherapy. We do not write prescriptions outside the infusion protocol itself.
    • We share clinical notes after every protocol.
Full infusion records, response assessments, and PHQ-9/GAD-7 trajectory delivered directly to your office. No fax retrieval, no chasing.
    • We coordinate maintenance directly with you.
Booster schedules are recommended only with your input and the patient’s broader treatment plan in mind — not on a fixed commercial cadence.
    • We refer back, not away.
If a patient asks us to take over their psychiatric care, we decline and reinforce the value of staying with the referring physician.
    • Expedited candidacy review.
Direct physician-to-physician scheduling for your patients. Same-week consultations available for established referring practices.

    Common Questions

    What Patients Most Often Ask

    How quickly does ketamine work?
Mood response — when it occurs — typically appears within hours to days after the second or third infusion, not weeks like traditional antidepressants. Pain response tends to lag slightly behind, often consolidating across the full 6-infusion course. Roughly 60–70% of patients with treatment-resistant depression and 50–65% of patients with refractory neuropathic pain experience meaningful improvement, though every patient is different.
How is your practice different from other NYC ketamine clinics?

Three meaningful ways. First, every infusion is supervised by board-certified physicians — not a nurse-led or technician-administered model. Second, we treat both chronic pain and mental health, which most NYC competitors do not. Third, we are an established interventional pain practice, not a standalone ketamine clinic — which means we can place ketamine in the full context of a patient’s options and stop treatment when it is not working.

Will insurance cover any of this?

Ketamine infusion therapy is not covered by commercial insurance — this is industry-wide. We provide detailed superbills you may submit to your insurer for potential out-of-network reimbursement, which some patients successfully obtain. We accept HSA and FSA accounts directly, and we offer CareCredit financing for protocol packages.

I'm under the care of a psychiatrist. Will you take over my care?
No — and we consider that a feature, not a limitation. We deliver the infusion course, report back to your psychiatrist with detailed clinical notes, and return you to their care. We do not manage SSRIs, mood stabilizers, or other psychiatric medications. Your psychiatrist remains the lead of your mental health team.
    What are the side effects?
Most patients experience a temporary dissociative effect during the infusion itself — sometimes described as feeling distant from one’s body or floating. This resolves within an hour of the infusion ending. Other possible effects include transient elevations in blood pressure, mild nausea, and occasional dizziness. Because every infusion is supervised by board-certified physicians, these are monitored continuously throughout each session.
Will I be safe to leave the office afterwards?
You will need to arrange transportation home — driving is not permitted on the day of infusion. Most patients feel clinically clear within 60–90 minutes of the infusion ending, but the prudent course is to plan for a quiet remainder of the day.
How is pain dosing different from mental health dosing?
Pain protocols use higher infusion doses delivered over a longer session, typically 2–4 hours depending on the condition. Mental health dosing is lower and shorter — closer to 40–60 minutes of active infusion. These are clinically distinct protocols, which is why we price them separately, and why being treated by a physician who genuinely understands both contexts matters.
